police officer prayers

police car with flashing lights

Gathered together on this page are a series of prayers suitable for police officers and their partners to pray. The first prayer is a contemporary prayer poem for a policeman or woman to say before beginning duty. This is followed by a shorter prayer for copying onto a card and carrying whilst at work. The third prayer is specifically for the wife of a policeman to pray for her husband’s protection and safety (there is also a similar prayer for husbands of police women). Finally there is a prayer for a fallen police officer, appropriate for a memorial church service or prayer meeting, and an inspiring prayer to say before starting work.

a prayer for a police officer
(A prayer poem for the protection, wisdom and safety of a police officer before beginning duty)

As I put on my uniform,
I always look to you
I know that you commission me
To do the work I do.

I ask for your protection
For all those that I lead.
I ask for your daily guidance
As we respond to those in need.

I know that you see our every move
And how we interweave,
To be our watchman, guard and shepherd,
All so dutifully.

I know you are forgiving Lord
And your love can cover sin.
So I desire to be a great example
Of how your grace can win.

So help me Lord when the pressures on
And we are stretched to meet the need.
Give me divine judgement,
To be wise and take the lead.

Oh help me Lord to serve and care
For all those on my team.
To nurture every aspect
Of their fears and hopes and dreams.

I thank you loving Father
For walking the beat with me.
I thank you that as I get dressed
You're right here next to me.

police officers prayer
(A prayer suitable for an officer to carry with them whilst on duty e.g. on a small card etc)

Lord,
As I go on duty
I am your servant,
Your hands and feet on the streets.
Protecting the vulnerable,
Correcting those who have gone astray,
And assisting people in their time of need.

As I go on duty
You are my friend,
Guiding my hands and feet on the streets.
Protecting me from harm,
Correcting my thoughts and actions,
Assisting me each time I call upon you in prayer.
Thank you.

Amen.

N.B. This prayer may also be prayed by a partner or loved one:-

Lord,
As he/she goes on duty
He/she is your servant,
Your hands and feet on the streets.
Protecting the vulnerable,
Correcting those who have gone astray,
And assisting people in their time of need.

As he/she goes on duty
He/she is your friend.
Come guide his/her hands and feet on the streets.
Protect him/her from harm,
Correct his/her thoughts and actions,
Come assist him/her each time he/she calls upon you in prayer.
Thank you.

Amen.

"I am your servant,
Your hands and feet on the streets"

A prayer for a police officers wife

Dear God,

I love my husband and feel honoured to marry such a wonderful policeman.
Yet at times his service to others can leave me concerned.
I know he would lay down his life to love and protect people.
So I come to you with my worries and ask for your peace.

You love my husband and you have helped him to be such a wonderful policeman.
At times you join him in his service to others and intervene by your spirit.
I know Jesus, you have laid down your own life, to love and forgive us all.
So I come to you in prayer and dwell within your peace.

Amen.

Prayer for a fallen police officer
(A prayer for an officer injured whilst on duty, suitable for a service or prayer meeting)

Heavenly Father,

Please be with our colleague who has been injured whilst on duty.
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Bless the work of the nurses and doctors who are treating him/her.
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Bring your healing into his/her body, come restore him/her fully.
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Be with their family, comfort them and keep them in their absence.
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

May they know that they have served well and grant him/her peace of mind and heart.
Lord in your great mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Amen.

Yet at times her service to others can leave me concerned.
I know she would lay down her life to love and protect people.
So I come to you with my worries and ask for your peace.

You love my wife and you have helped her to be such a wonderful policewoman.

I know Jesus, you have laid down your own life, to love and forgive us all.
So I come to you in prayer and dwell within your peace.

quotes from the bible for police officers

"Christ gives me the strength to face anything"

(Philippians 4:13, CEV)

"This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection."

(Psalm 91:2-4, NLT)

" And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we'll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels."

(Ephesians 6:10-12, MSG)
