easter prayers

three crosses

Gathered together on this page are several inspiring prayers for celebrating the season of Easter, with prayers for children to read or say in a church service or school assembly, a prayer for Easter Sunday morning, and two grace prayers for the Easter dinner.

The first prayer is a short rhyming prayer suitable for younger children and the second children’s prayer is for giving thanks to God and reminding us of Christ's life, death and resurrection. The third prayer is for adults to say and is a reflection on God's love, life, hope and truth which celebrates the moment Christ rose from the grave. The final two short prayers are graces to use before the Easter breakfast or dinner meal.

prayers for children to say

Short Easter prayer for children

(a rhyming prayer suitable for infant and preschool children)

God made you and God made me,
He made the world for us to see.
God loves you and long ago,
He sent his Son to tell us so.

Jesus showed us many things,
To love and share and dance and sing.
To learn and pray, to help and care,
He promised he'd always be there.

He died but then came back to life,
Let's celebrate for he's alive!

Amen.

Easter prayer for children

(a prayer suitable for primary {elementary} aged children to read)

Dear God

Thank you for giving us such good gifts.
For our families who love us.
For yummy food and tasty drink.
For so many different beautiful animals.
For parks with tall trees and soft grass.
For birds that fly among the clouds.
For seas and streams that are fun to paddle in.
And thank you for your son Jesus.
We like to read about him in the bible.
He taught his disciples about you.
He healed people who were sick.
He walked on water,
And even died and came back to life.
Help us to remember all the things he did
And celebrate him on this special day.

Amen.

Easter Sunday prayer

O Lord,

How amazing is your love,
A love that overcomes, endures and redeems.
How astounding is your life,
A life that sustains, heals and creates.
How awesome is your hope,
A hope that promises, restores and inspires.
How absorbing is your truth,
A truth that releases, changes and rebuilds.

How we worship you, as we remember the moment when your love conquered.
When out of the cave of sorrow Jesus arose to release forgiveness to the world.
And each time we encounter this resurrection day we are again lifted to an eternal place.
Our sin, brokenness and darkness fall away and your light and peace flood our lives.
How we thank you for this incredible celebration we call Easter.

Amen.

Easter dinner prayer

(a grace prayer before a meal)

Lord,

As we gather together as family and friends we invite you once again into our lives.
May the hope of your resurrection colour our days.
May the promise of your spirit working in us light up our lives.
May the love you revealed to us shape our giving.
May the truth in your word guide our journeys,
And may the joy of your kingdom fill our homes.

As we gather together underneath the banner of your life,
We thank you for all the wonderful food that we can now enjoy,
And celebrate your glorious resurrection.

Thank you Lord.

Amen.

Easter Grace Before Meals Prayer

(a blessing for Easter lunch or dinner)

Lord, thank you that on the cross you overcame all darkness, sin and death and are alive forevermore. Thank you that we are made alive in you and are eternally yours. So today we praise you for your endless goodness and provision. Please bless this beautiful food to us now in your precious name.

Amen.

"out of the cave of sorrow Jesus arose to release forgiveness to the world"

bible verses about Easter

"For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died."

(1 Thessalonians 4:14, NLT)

Jesus then said, "I am the one who raises the dead to life! Everyone who has faith in me will live, even if they die. And everyone who lives because of faith in me will never really die. Do you believe this?"

(John 11:25-26, CEV)

"By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by the glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life."

(Romans 6:4, GNT)
