fresh bread which has been cut into slices

There are also two good quotes from the bible about fasting, and an uplifting short film to watch for your times with God when not eating.

Short prayer for breaking fast

Dear Father,

Awaken my soul, I thirst for you and long to know you more.
Sharpen my prayers, I wait on you and trust in your great love.
Enlighten my mind with your great promise, I lift your name on high.
Bless this meal, I give you thanks for this nourishment in my life.

Amen.

prayer for fasting

A beautiful prayer for drawing close to God whilst fasting:-

"I give you thanks for this nourishment in my life"

Prayer for food

O Lord,

Thank you for the harvest, that you give us our daily bread.
Thank you for the smallest seed which can grow to feed us.
Thank you for creating so many tastes and textures,
colours and aromas.
We wonder at these miracles and give thanks for all these gifts.

Amen.

Closing Prayer After Meeting

Father, thank you for all the marvellous things you have done today.
Thank you for your love that you have revealed to us,
And for the love that we share together as your body.

We pray for all the words that you have sown into our hearts this day.
Watch over them, protect them.
May they take root and produce wonderful things,
Things of beauty and great blessings to many.
And as we leave this place now, thank you that you walk with us.
May we be alert to your promptings
And live in your endless love.
For yours is the kingdom, the power and glory
In this age and forevermore.

Amen.

bible quotes about fasting

And now about fasting. When you fast, declining your food for a spiritual purpose, don’t do it publicly, as the hypocrites do, who try to look wan and disheveled so people will feel sorry for them. Truly, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, put on festive clothing, 18 so that no one will suspect you are hungry, except your Father who knows every secret. And he will reward you.

(Matthew 6:16-18, TLB)

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

(Matthew 4:1-4, NIV)
