prayers for relationships

One of the most distressing things that can happen to us in life is when a relationship with someone whom we love becomes broken or in danger of ending. This is especially true when trouble hits a Christian marriage. However, the bible reminds us that "A cord of three strands is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:12, NIV)- with God in our relationships there is always the possiblity of his strength and love overcoming any hardship or difficulty.

Gathered together on this page are prayers to help with healing marriages or relationships that are in trouble, as well as some inspiring verses from the bible about the nature of God's enduring love.

1 Cor 13 - God's Love

a short film on God's love. This video features a reading of the famous "Hymn to Love" by the apostle Paul, set within a contemporary song:-

Prayer for troubled marriage

Dear Lord,

I promised that I would always love, honour, cherish and respect when I married. Sometimes it is hard to keep these promises.

Please reignite our love where it has faded.
Please help us to communicate our needs and understand one another.
Please help us to remember good times and to cherish new times together.
Please help us to forgive, and also to respect and enjoy our differences.

You are part of our vision, you know us both deeply, only you understand the problems we face.
So we trust in you to restore our love. We choose to live in your promises, to take each day and transform it into a beautiful picture, an intimate friendship, and a testament to your love through us.

Prayer for a broken relationship

Father in heaven,

I feel so sad, because my heart is broken. I have lost the feelings of love in this relationship. I feel empty and so bewildered by what has happened.

You are my rock, my help in times of trouble.
I need you. I need your restoration, your love and hope in my heart. I trust you can heal the brokenness I feel.

quotes on love from the bible

"Above everything, love one another earnestly, because love covers over many sins."

(1 Peter 4:8, GNT)

"Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what
it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,""

(1 Corinthians 13:4-5, The Message)

"Love cannot be drowned
by oceans or floods;
it cannot be bought,
no matter what is offered"

(Song of Solomon 8:7, CEV)

"we trust in you to restore our love"
